The Best Time of Year to Get Married in Vancouver: An Honest, Season-by-Season Guide

Every couple planning a wedding in Vancouver eventually asks some version of the same question: when is the best time to do this?

The honest answer is that it depends entirely on what you’re optimizing for. Weather, budget, availability, light quality, and the kind of photos you want all point toward different answers. Here’s what each season actually looks like — without the spin.

Summer (June – August)

Summer is Vancouver’s peak wedding season, and the reason is obvious. Long days, reliable sunshine, warm temperatures, and the full backdrop of mountains and ocean at their best. The light in July and August can be genuinely extraordinary — golden evenings that stretch past 9pm, soft and warm and flattering in almost every situation.

The tradeoffs are real. Venues book up fast — often a year or more in advance. Vendors charge peak pricing. Popular outdoor locations are busier. And the smoke from late-summer wildfires has become an annual issue that can turn what should be a clear mountain backdrop into a hazy grey wash.

If summer is what you want, book early and build contingencies for smoke.

Fall (September – November)

This is the season that actually surprises most couples once they experience it firsthand. September in Vancouver is often stunning — drier than spring, cooler than summer, with some of the best light of the year. The mountain snowline drops in October, giving you the combination of fall colour in the trees and snow on the peaks. It’s genuinely spectacular.

October is increasingly popular for good reason. The light has that low, golden, directional quality that makes photos look cinematic without any effort. Rain becomes a factor as November arrives, but even overcast fall days photograph beautifully — soft, even light with no harsh shadows.

Fall is our personal recommendation for couples with flexibility. The prices are lower than summer, the venues are more available, and the visual variety is hard to beat.

Winter (December – February)

Winter in Vancouver gets a bad reputation that it doesn’t entirely deserve. Yes, it rains. Yes, the days are short. But winter also brings dramatic skies, moody light, and an intimacy that other seasons can’t replicate.

The big upside: absolute availability. Venues that are booked solid in summer have open dates all winter. Pricing drops significantly. And the mountains — when the weather clears — are snow-covered and dramatic in a way that’s completely different from any other time of year.

Indoor venues come into their own in winter too. If you love the look of candlelight, dark wood, and cozy interiors, winter gives you a natural excuse to lean into it.

For elopements specifically, winter can be magical. Just accept that you might get rained on and dress for it.

Spring (March – May)

Spring is underrated. Cherry blossom season — roughly late March through mid-April — is one of Vancouver’s most beautiful annual events, and it coincides with a period when the crowds are still manageable and the prices haven’t climbed to summer levels.

The light in spring is softer than summer, with longer days arriving gradually through April and May. Rain is possible, especially in March, but spring weather is unpredictable in both directions — you can get brilliant clear days or overcast softness or dramatic sky shows, sometimes all in the same afternoon.

May in particular is a sweet spot. The mountains are still snow-capped, the trees are full and green, and the summer chaos hasn’t arrived yet.

The Real Answer

There is no objectively best time. Every season has something to offer and something to navigate around. The couples who have the best experience — and the best photos — are usually the ones who chose a season that actually resonates with them, built flexibility into their planning, and didn’t spend the day stressed about weather they couldn’t control.
